FIDE Ratings Load

The Load Wizard allows text files of fixed width field format to be loaded. At present it only allows the FIDE Rating List in text format to be loaded. The process is split into four steps:

  • Step 1: Display the raw data.
  • Step 2: Identify the columns of data.
  • Step 3: Define the fields to be loaded from the columns of data.
  • Step 4: Import the data.

Step 1

This displays the raw data from the file. Tick the box if the file contains a header row. When this is ticked, the data is redisplayed. It is important that you correctly set the ‘The first line of the file is a header row’ tick box, otherwise the system will not be able to import the data correctly. Click Next when you are happy with the data is displayed correctly.

Step 2

This initially analyses the data on the file and determines the columns of data held within the file. The data in the file is displayed along with a vertical line to represent the split of each column. It the system has identified columns incorrectly they can be manually adjusted.

Step 2

To move a column marker, click and drag the square blob at the top of a column divider to the correct position. To remove a column marker click and drag the marker off of the data list. To add a column marker click on the data list in the required position. The column markers should be positioned at the end of each data field. There is no need to mark off blank space at the front on a field.

When you are happy that you have correctly defined the positions of the columns, click on the next button.

Step 3

This takes the columns of data defined in the previous steps and allows you to define which database field the data needs to be loaded into. As this currently only works for the FIDE Rating List, the system automatically selected default data fields for each column. These can be changed if required.

Step 3

Once the data fields have been selected for the columns, click on Finish to load the data.

Step 4

Finally the data is loaded. A progress bar is displayed as the data is imported.

Once the FIDE Rating list has been loaded, all players on the Master List with a FIDE No will be automatically updated.
